During pregnancy having a healthy lifestyle is very essential. A pregnant person's diet should be a balance of nutrient-dense foods, different animal and plant-based proteins, fruits, grains, vegetables, and healthy fats. During pregnancy, whatever a woman eats, her developing baby gets a share of it. So it is necessary to have a healthy diet to protect your little one.
However, some foods are healthy to develop your fetus, excepting some foods and drinks, such as alcohol and some cheeses, can have a disastrous effect on the baby. Here is the list of foods to avoid during your pregnancy, for a healthy baby.

- Mercury in high amounts can be toxic to your immune, and nervous system, and also to your kidneys. It may cause a seriously damaging effect on your fetus. Therefore, in your pregnancy you should avoid high mercury fishes like shark, swordfish, tuna, tilefish, king mackerel, and marlin. Apart from all these, you should also avoid sushi, any raw fish, or shellfish.
- Avoid any food that contains raw eggs like lightly scrambled eggs, poached eggs, raw cookie dough, bearnaise sauce, mayonnaise, mousse, tiramisu, or any homemade sauces and desserts made with raw eggs.
- Avoid uncooked or partially cooked meats like steaks. Do not eat any ready-to-eat meats unless they've been reheated until steaming hot.
- Camembert and brie cheeses carry a lot of listerias. Listeria bacteria can cause fatal infections in pregnant women and their babies.
2 additional things that a pregnant woman should keep in mind
- Pregnant women should not consume alcohol at all. It is harmful to your baby and there is a chance that your baby might have vision or hearing problems, low body weight, and other complications.
- Smoking during pregnancy can cause tissue damage in the unborn baby. Tobacco smoke contains carbon monoxide. A fetus cannot breathe in carbon monoxide. Tobacco contains many harmful chemicals that can harm an unborn child.
Those are the things a pregnant woman should maintain to promote a healthy pregnancy. Apart from all these a pregnant woman can not consume caffeine of more than 200mg a day. So when you are pregnant it is essential to take some precautions that are safe for you and your little one.
