8 foods to avoid
- Try to avoid deep fried foods including any type of chips or fries. Studies have shown that french fries and potato chips are directly linked to weight gain. Baked, roasted, and fried potatoes contain acrylamide, which is a cancer causing substance. It is recommended to eat plain boiled potatoes.
- Baked food such as cookies, pastries, and desserts have too much sugar, refined flour, and fructose. Fructose increases blood levels of uric acids, leading you to high blood pressure and gout. They also contain trans fat, which is very harmful for the human body. If you are craving something sweet, go for dark chocolate instead.
- Sugar-added drinks such as soda are one of the detrimental foods. Sugary drinks contain a lot of calories, which is not good if you are trying to lose weight. This can have disastrous health effects if consumed excessively.
- Replace refined wheat with whole-grain wheat. Refined flour is high in calories and carbohydrates, often contains a lot of sugars, but they are low in protein, fiber, and other nutrients. So try to choose whole grain foods.
- Do not drink alcohol, especially beer. These have about 7 calories per gram, more than protein and carbs. Drinking in moderation helps to reduce weight, whereas excessive drinking increases weight gain.
- Energy bars are extremely unhealthy, they are high in calories but low in nutrients and often contain too much sugar. Instead eat a handful of nuts, hard boiled eggs, yogurt, if you are craving for a snack.
- White rice is low in fats but has minimum fiber and protein. Eat brown rice, quinoa, and cauliflower rice as an alternative of white rice, which can make you feel fuller.
- Avoid eating dried, smoked, farmented, processed and preserved meat, because these are often high in sodium and low in nutrients. Also processed meat can cause cancer.
