Diabetes or high blood glucose is a chronic health disease. Glucose is crucial in building muscles and tissues. Your pancreas produces insulin hormone which helps in the metabolism process. Insulin accumulates sugar from the blood and moves to our body's cells to be used as energy. Diabetes eventuates when your body doesn't produce enough insulin or cannot use insulin effectively.

Excessive sugar in your bloodstream can lead you to several health issues including cardiovascular diseases, stroke, kidney disease, eye problems, dental issues, nerve damage and others. There are four types of diabetes present namely type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes, prediabetes, gestational diabetes. Type 1 diabetes occurs when your pancreas doesn't make enough insulin. Type 2 diabetes affects your body's capability to use insulin efficiently. Gestational diabetes takes place in pregnancy.

Causes of diabetes

  • Causes of type 1 diabetes : It is still unknown which causes type 1 diabetes. This is known to be an immune system disease. Your body mistakenly destroys insulin producing cells which blocks your body from making insulin. It is believed genetics plays a huge role in type 1 diabetes.
  • Causes of type 2 diabetes : Type 2 diabetes is the most common type of diabetes. In type 2 diabetes your body does not use insulin properly. The reasons can cause type 2 diabetes such as being overweight and physical inactivity. However, genetics and environment takes a huge place in progressing type 2 diabetes.
  • Causes of gestational diabetes : In pregnancy your body cells become more resistant to insulin. In that case your pancreas cannot make enough insulin which leads you to this type of diabetes.
